Pillar collapse injures two workers in Deoband, UP
A part of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway collapsed in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh, injuring two construction workers. The incident happened on Sunday when a concrete girder fell while being moved by a crane. The workers faced injuries to their legs. One of them suffered a fractured leg, according to police. Luckily, no one else was trapped beneath the fallen structure. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said the incident occurred during the building of a flyover on the Deoband Canal. The canal had been closed for 15 days for this construction work. The crane's string wire broke, causing one girder to fall and bring down four others. NHAI’s Project Director, Narendra Singh, confirmed that the issue was due to a crane malfunction, not a flaw in the girders themselves. Traffic diversions were in place, which helped prevent more injuries. The contractor is covering the medical costs for the injured workers. In light of the collapse, NHAI has set up a committee to investigate what went wrong. This team will examine the site and prepare a report for the authority. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is an important infrastructure project that aims to improve transportation between the two cities, making travel safer and quicker with various features.
