Piscataway woman arrested for fatal accident hit-and-run
A 62-year-old woman from Piscataway has been charged for leaving the scene of a fatal accident that took place in August 2024. Shernice Benbow was arrested on March 20, 2025, as announced by Union County Prosecutor William Daniel. The accident happened on August 30, 2024, when a pedestrian, 67-year-old Jennifer Harris, was struck by a car on East Front Street. Harris was pronounced dead at the scene after police arrived. Benbow faces serious charges, including second-degree leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and third-degree endangering an injured victim. Prosecutor Daniel expressed hope that the arrest would provide some comfort to Harris's family. Plainfield Police Director James Abney also added that this arrest may help the healing process for Harris's family. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Union County Prosecutor’s Office or Plainfield Police.
