Planescape: Torment artist reveals rapid creation of iconic companions by novice 3D modeler
In a recent interview, Tim Donley, lead artist for Planescape: Torment, revealed that most of the game's companions were created in a day or less by Eric Campanella, a 2D artist with no prior 3D modeling experience. Donley described Campanella's work as exceptional, likening it to the artistry of Da Vinci. Campanella's understanding of anatomy allowed him to design the seven main companions quickly, with the exception of the main character, The Nameless One. Planescape: Torment, while not the first or most famous CRPG, is considered a significant title in the genre's development. The rapid creation of its characters highlights an interesting aspect of game design history.
