PMC acquires land using Transfer of Development Rights

hindustantimes.com

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has acquired 285 acres of land since 2016. This land is valued at ₹5,343 crore and has been obtained through Transfer of Development Rights (TDR). Officials say this method has saved the city a lot of money in land acquisition costs. Prashant Waghmare, the city engineer, explained that the land will be used for important public projects. These will include hospitals, parks, playgrounds, and schools. However, the PMC is currently struggling with land acquisition for road projects. They are paying more than the official rates to secure land, as many landowners prefer cash instead of TDR. To address this, the PMC has set aside ₹250 crore in its budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year to compensate landowners with cash.
