PML-N and PPP agree on merit-based bureaucratic appointments
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have resolved their long-standing dispute over bureaucratic appointments in Punjab. A recent meeting confirmed a mutual understanding of merit-based selections, with no political interference. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has committed to strictly merit-based appointments in the civil bureaucracy, rejecting any influence from political parties. This policy, initially met with skepticism, is now accepted as a necessary reform. The provincial government has assured PPP leaders that all appointments will be fair, focusing on qualified candidates. The chief minister personally interviews candidates, and any officer attempting to use political connections is disqualified.
