Polestar tests EVs for winter performance in Sweden

Polestar, a Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer, is focusing on winter testing to ensure their cars perform well in harsh conditions. Recently, they invited a team from Los Angeles to their testing site in Lulea, Sweden, known for its icy landscapes. The goal is to fine-tune key features such as traction and stability control. Driving electric vehicles on ice is a unique challenge. Unlike traditional cars, electric vehicles (EVs) can instantaneously deliver high torque, which can lead to loss of traction. This makes software programming crucial. Polestar uses technology that monitors wheel speed and applies regenerative braking, allowing for smooth and safe driving experiences even in icy conditions. Cold weather also affects battery performance. Batteries do not work as efficiently in freezing temperatures, posing another challenge for EV manufacturers. Polestar, rooted in Scandinavia, understands these issues and is working to adapt its vehicles accordingly.
