Police chase in Pittsburg ends with one fatality

A police chase in Pittsburg early Sunday morning ended in a crash that killed one person and injured two others. According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident began at 12:41 a.m. when officers spotted a suspect driving a stolen gray Infiniti sedan. The suspect was speeding over 100 miles per hour on State Route 4 and was armed with a stolen handgun. When CHP officers tried to pull the vehicle over as it exited onto Railroad Avenue, the driver fled. The officers pursued the suspect for about a minute until the suspect crashed into another car that was not involved in the chase. The crash resulted in the death of one person. Both the suspect and the driver of the other vehicle were injured and taken to a local hospital. A handgun was found at the crash site. The Pittsburg Police Department is leading the criminal investigation into the events surrounding the chase. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office is also looking into the matter.
