Police investigate explosions and mortar rounds in Colorado Springs

Police in Colorado Springs are investigating reports of explosions that occurred early Sunday morning. They found over 40 mortar rounds in the area after responding to calls about the sounds. Officers arrived at the scene on Oro Blanco Drive around 1 a.m. and discovered a small grass fire. Fire crews quickly put out the fire. During their search, police located 20 used mortars and 24 that had not detonated. The bomb squad was called to handle the unexploded ordnance.
