Police officer suspended for torturing detainee in Nawabazar

A police officer in Palamu, Chintu Kumar, was suspended on Saturday. This action came after a complaint about human rights violations was raised in the state assembly by opposition leader Babulal Marandi. Marandi reported that a local resident, Mahfuz Ahmad, was taken by police on March 1 and was physically tortured for five days. He urged the assembly to ensure Ahmad receives proper medical treatment and called for accountability for the involved police officer. Director General of Police Anurag Gupta stated that the Superintendent of Police in Palamu has been instructed to investigate the case and take necessary actions.
