Police raid leads to infant's death in Rajasthan
In Rajasthan's Teliyabas hamlet, a police raid aimed at confronting cybercrime led to a tragic incident resulting in the death of a one-month-old infant, Alisba. The raid took place early in the morning on March 2 as police from a nearby town were looking for a suspected cyber fraudster linked to a scam. During the raid, the police entered the home of Razida and Imran Khan. They forced their way inside, and a policeman reportedly stepped on the infant while searching the room. When Razida and Imran returned, they found Alisba unresponsive and later learned that she had died from the incident. The region of Mewat, which Teliyabas is part of, has seen a significant rise in cybercrime, with over 26,000 cases reported in Alwar district alone. This area has been described as a hub for cybercriminals, prompting police crackdowns that have created fear among locals. The community quickly rallied to demand justice for Alisba. Protests began, with locals criticizing the police's heavy-handed tactics. Former Minister Nasru Khan and influential figures like maulana Tahir joined the family to support them. They accused the police of acting like thugs and stressed that the Khan family was innocent and not involved in cybercrime. While the village has gained media attention, the police have faced criticism for their response to the incident. Some police officials were transferred but not suspended, which angered residents. During protests, villagers insisted that authorities investigate properly and hold the police accountable. As the story unfolds, many residents express their frustration with ongoing cyber fraud in the region, linking it to unemployment and police corruption. Local police deny accusations of impropriety, maintaining that they are working hard against cybercrime, although complaints to a new helpline have decreased. In response to public concern, local government officials have promised a thorough investigation into the incident, with some even threatening to escalate the matter to New Delhi if necessary. Despite the tragic loss, the Khan family finds strength in community support and continues to seek justice for Alisba.
