Police reopen case on Harlapur woman’s assault incident

Belagavi Police have filed a new case related to a woman being stripped and assaulted over a land dispute. This incident occurred in Harlapur village on March 17 and has gained attention following orders from the Chief Minister’s Office. The Chief Minister's Office instructed police to take action after reports emerged that they had not registered a case based on the woman's complaint. Police have now filed a fresh FIR, responding to this directive. The woman claimed she was attacked by relatives who partially stripped her after outsiders attempted to harvest crops from her land. She alleged that the police did not act when she reported the incident, even providing video evidence of officers present during the event. The police previously denied her claims, stating that the woman had tried to disrupt the harvesting by her relatives. They mentioned her claim over a piece of land that is officially registered under her sister-in-law’s name. Past disputes regarding the land have resulted in two FIRs being filed in 2024.
