Police shoot man with airsoft gun in Point Breeze
Police in Philadelphia shot a man who was reportedly carrying an airsoft-style BB gun. The incident took place in the Point Breeze neighborhood on Wednesday around 11 a.m. Two sheriff's deputies and a Department of Licenses and Inspections employee were conducting an inspection at a home when they encountered a 36-year-old man with the airsoft gun, which resembled a real rifle. The man ran away from them, walking east on Morris Street. Authorities say he later came into contact with police officers on the 1600 block of Moore Street. The man allegedly turned towards the officers with the weapon, prompting one officer to fire his gun. The man was hit in the right side and was quickly taken to the hospital by police. The officer who fired his weapon is 46 years old and has served in the department for 17 years. He has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues. The wounded man remains in the hospital.
