Polio vaccinations to resume in north Gaza after fighting pause
Polio vaccinations will restart in north Gaza on Saturday, following a pause due to intense fighting. The World Health Organization (WHO) had postponed the second phase of the campaign after a polio case was reported in August, leaving a baby paralyzed.
The WHO aims to vaccinate 119,000 children, but access issues mean about 15,000 children in northern towns will miss the campaign. The latest humanitarian pause allows vaccinations only in Gaza City, a significant reduction from previous efforts.
Fifteen UN and humanitarian organizations have described the situation in north Gaza as "apocalyptic," with over 100,000 people displaced. The ongoing conflict has raised concerns about the health risks facing the population amid the polio outbreak.
