Poll shows more Republican women own firearms than Democratic men in 2024

A recent Gallup poll shows that 33% of Republican women own firearms, surpassing the 29% ownership among Democratic men. This marks a significant increase in ownership among Republican women, up 14 points since 2019. The overall gap in gun ownership between political parties has widened from 16 points in 2007 to 28 points in 2024. While 43% of men own firearms, only 20% of women do, though the gender gap has decreased slightly in recent years. Personal protection remains the primary reason for gun ownership. Many Democrats express reluctance to own firearms, with 60% stating they could never see themselves owning one. Support for handgun bans is also declining among Democrats.
