Poniros wins JCB Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival

Poniros, a horse owned by Tony Bloom, won the JCB Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, surprising many as it was his first race over jumps. He was a 100-1 outsider, making him one of the biggest priced winners in Cheltenham history. Previously, Poniros had raced on the Flat without success and was sold for 200,000gns to trainer Willie Mullins. Bloom's other horses had been strong contenders, but Poniros was not expected to perform well. Jockey Jonjo O’Neill Jr. stepped in to ride Poniros after initially planning to race elsewhere. He expressed disbelief at the horse's performance, noting it was an unexpected victory in his first hurdle race.
