Pope Francis discharged from hospital after pneumonia recovery
Pope Francis is set to leave the hospital on Sunday after spending 38 days being treated for pneumonia in both lungs. Doctors at Gemelli Hospital announced the news, stating that the Pope will need at least two months for rest and rehabilitation at the Vatican to aid his recovery. In the UK, the government is considering sending failed asylum seekers to offshore facilities, known as "migrant hubs." These would be located in partner countries, potentially including Albania, Serbia, and Bosnia. Discussions about this plan are still in their early stages, according to a Home Office source. This initiative comes as the number of people crossing the English Channel has increased. On Thursday and Friday alone, hundreds of people arrived, pushing the total for this year over 5,000. This is the earliest this milestone has been reached since records began in 2018. The new Labour Party plan for offshore processing is different from the previous Conservative government's Rwanda scheme, which the Supreme Court deemed unlawful. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp criticized the Labour plan, calling it a sign of failure and suggesting that cancelling the Rwanda scheme was a mistake. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey supported the decision to scrap the Rwanda scheme but called for faster processing of asylum applications. He stressed the importance of giving asylum seekers the right to work, arguing this could benefit the economy and reduce costs. The UK government recently strengthened cooperation with France to combat people smuggling. Meanwhile, the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill is still under discussion in Parliament. The Home Office has not yet commented on the latest developments.
