Portage la Prairie man critically injured in assault

A 40-year-old man from Portage la Prairie is in critical condition after an assault on Friday night. He was airlifted to the hospital due to life-threatening injuries, according to Manitoba RCMP. The incident occurred at a home in Somerset, which is about 65 kilometers southwest of Portage la Prairie. Police were called to the scene around 10:45 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, officers found the man with serious injuries. He was transported by STARS air ambulance to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault and is currently in police custody. Authorities have not yet announced any charges, but the investigation is ongoing.
