Portland police dismantle large retail theft operation
Portland police have uncovered a large operation involved in retail theft. Investigators say this theft ring bought thousands of stolen goods from shoplifters and sold them online. They describe it as one of the biggest fencing operations in Portland's history. On Tuesday, police executed search warrants at three locations, including a warehouse in Vancouver and two stores. Officers were seen in tactical gear as they approached a store called Card Rhino in Northeast Portland. Inside, they found thousands of dollars' worth of stolen items, such as electronics and collectibles. These goods were new and still in their original packaging. Law enforcement officials noted that shoplifters would steal merchandise and sell it to Card Rhino for a small amount of money. The store then listed these stolen items on eBay. The operation had a significant online presence with many transactions over several years. Police reported that Card Rhino was a popular place for people to sell stolen goods. While officers were present, some individuals approached the store looking to sell their items. Two people were briefly detained outside but were later released. Charges against them are expected in the future. This case sheds light on the ongoing issue of retail theft in Portland, which affects businesses and puts both employees and customers at risk.
