Posters of 'Supreme leader Mamata' appear in Kolkata
Posters referring to "Supreme leader Mamata" appeared in Kolkata, one day after similar posters for "Captain Abhishek" were posted. These new signs are linked to a group of Trinamool Congress supporters called "FAM for TMC." The timing of the posters raises questions about a possible struggle for power within the party. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is currently in the U.K., having handed party responsibilities to her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, and party president Subrata Bakshi for a week. This delegation comes as they prepare for the 2026 Assembly election. Abhishek Banerjee recently held a virtual meeting to discuss party strategies. The posters were seen together, especially in areas like Jadavpur, leading to increased political speculation in West Bengal. The debate over leadership between the newer and older members of the party continues to be a hot topic. Opposition leaders have commented on the posters. Dilip Ghosh from the Bharatiya Janata Party dismissed them as unimportant, suggesting anyone with resources can create posters. CPI-M leader Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya criticized the spending on the posters as wasteful. Despite the speculation, senior Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy affirmed Mamata Banerjee's leadership, stating she is still the party's supreme leader, even with others taking temporary responsibilities. The party's social media cell plans to meet on Sunday to discuss their future strategies.
