Potential Tropical Cyclone 18 forms in Caribbean and may impact Gulf of Mexico
The National Hurricane Center has identified an area in the south-central Caribbean as Potential Tropical Cyclone 18. The system is forecast to move north and could enter the Gulf of Mexico as a hurricane by midweek. Current predictions suggest the storm may weaken as it approaches the Northern Gulf due to cooler waters and high wind shear. The situation will be monitored closely as it could still impact parts of the Gulf Coast. A Potential Tropical Cyclone is a system that may bring tropical storm or hurricane conditions within 48 hours, even if it hasn't fully developed yet. November storms are not uncommon, despite being past the peak of hurricane season.
