£6.5 billion train line to connect Los Angeles and Artesia
Los Angeles is set to see a major change in its public transport system with the construction of the Southeast Gateway Line. This £6.5 billion project aims to connect Downtown Los Angeles to Artesia. The new rail line will offer an alternative to driving and provide better access to important opportunities for underserved communities. The line will mostly follow the historic West Santa Ana Branch and make stops at various cities in southeastern Los Angeles County. County Supervisor Janice Hahn emphasized the importance of this project during its groundbreaking ceremony. She noted that many areas in Southeast L.A. have often been overlooked when it comes to public transportation. Earlier this year, construction officially began after two decades of planning. The project has received significant funding, including a $231 million grant from the California State Transportation Agency. The Southeast Gateway Line aims to improve mobility, support local plans, reduce environmental impacts, and promote fairness in transportation. The 14.5-mile rail line is expected to be completed by 2035. It will provide transit access to cities such as Bell, Downey, and Huntington Park. WSP, a leading professional services firm, has been involved in the project since 2016. They believe this new line will greatly benefit the residents and businesses in the area.
