timesofindia.indiatimes.com

In Prayagraj, police have started a new effort to revoke arms licenses for individuals with criminal records. The Pratapgarh Police identified 700 license holders who have a history of crime. This move is part of a zero-tolerance policy aimed at maintaining law and order. According to police superintendent Anil Kumar, there are over 12,000 valid arms licenses in the Pratapgarh area. Last year, the district cancelled 47 licenses, with the most cancellations occurring in November 2024. The police reported cases from various localities, including Kotwali Dehat, Kohdaur, and Kunda. The police will carefully check the credentials of these individuals in a phased approach starting this month. They will send reports to district authorities to initiate license cancellations. Additionally, police have warned license holders to use their weapons responsibly. If a license is cancelled, the holder must return the weapon and paperwork to the local police station to avoid legal consequences.
