Prayagraj gains three new medical colleges, improving healthcare

The Prayagraj region has seen major healthcare improvements during the eight years of the Yogi government. New medical infrastructure and better services have increased access to healthcare for local residents. Three new medical colleges have been established in Prayagraj. In 2021, a medical college was built in Fatehpur, costing ₹212 crore and accommodating 202 students. Another college in Kaushambi, which is set to open for 120 students, cost ₹270 crore. A third college with 100 MBBS seats was also opened in Pratapgarh. Additionally, important healthcare services have expanded significantly. A new 160-bed Super Specialty Block was constructed at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, benefiting nearby patients. A 250-bed children's hospital is set to open by August 2025. Motilal Nehru Medical College has also seen upgrades. Improvements were funded by ₹75 crore from Prayagraj Mahakumbh funds. A new outpatient department (OPD) wing was added, along with a Central Diagnostic Center for all lab tests in one place. A trauma center is in the works, and new medical equipment has been purchased. Healthcare access has improved for both urban and rural residents. Three community health centers and a 100-bed hospital have been constructed. The district operates 551 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to provide essential health services and telemedicine consultations. Furthermore, 12 Health ATMs have been set up, allowing patients to access various testing services conveniently. The Model Maternal and Child Health wings have also expanded, adding more beds across different health centers. Over 13 lakh beneficiaries have received golden cards under the Ayushman Bharat program in the district.
