Prayagraj sees major infrastructure and job growth
Prayagraj has seen significant improvements in infrastructure and amenities during the Yogi government's eight years in power in Uttar Pradesh. Under this administration, the city has undergone a major transformation. The focus has been on developing basic facilities in the district. From 2017 to 2025, the government built 1,902 kilometers of new roads and maintained 8,943 kilometers. District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar noted that this enhancement in infrastructure has greatly improved connectivity in the area, particularly with ongoing projects like the ring road and new bridges. Public transport has also improved. The city now has 50 electric buses and a new 40-seater electric Atal bus service, enhancing connections between urban and rural areas. Recently, 20 additional rural routes have been identified for future connections with the city. The economic growth in Prayagraj has been significant as well. The government facilitated an investment of Rs 3,813.80 crore to set up nearly 70,000 industrial units, creating jobs for almost 458,000 people. In terms of law and order, the Yogi government has been strict, particularly against organized crime. Notable actions included targeting mafia leader Atiq Ahmed and his associates. The government also established a new police commissionerate and an anti-corruption unit. Religious and cultural tourism has flourished too, especially after the Maha Kumbh festival. Prayagraj has become a significant tourist destination, increasing its tourist influx fivefold since 2017, now attracting 10% of tourism in the region, along with Kashi and Ayodhya.
