Prayagraj's tourism boosted by five major corridors

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Prayagraj is now recognized as an important tourist destination, thanks to the efforts of the Yogi government over the past eight years. The city's heritage as a site of temples has been enhanced with the development of five major tourism corridors. These corridors connect important locations. They include routes to Vindhyachal and Kashi, Ayodhya and Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Naimisharanya, Rajapur and Chitrakoot, and Mathura and Vrindavan. Other significant projects are the Hanuman temple corridor, Akshayvat temple corridor, and the Bhardwaj Ashram corridor. The government has invested in the restoration of historical temples from the Vedic period. For example, 12 Madhav temples were rejuvenated with a budget of Rs 12.34 crores. Eleven ancient temples were also renovated, costing Rs 19.01 crores. Shringaverpur Dham was revitalized, turning it into a new rural tourism site that had been overlooked for years. A notable addition is the Nishadraj tourism park, linked to Lord Ram, with a budget of Rs 37.82 crores spent in two phases. The government also provided training to over 4,000 locals involved in tourism services, such as guides and vendors, to improve their income. The move has been successful, with tourist numbers increasing from 2% to 10% since 2017. This growth is expected to continue as tourism initiatives are set to continue until the next Ardh Kumbh.
