President Zardari appoints Justice Yahya Afridi as new Chief Justice of Pakistan
President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Justice Yahya Afridi as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan, effective October 26. This decision follows a parliamentary committee's recommendation, which approved Afridi's nomination with a two-thirds majority. Justice Afridi will serve a three-year term, succeeding the current chief justice. The committee considered three candidates, ultimately endorsing Afridi after reviewing their profiles. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party boycotted the committee's discussions. Afridi previously served as chief justice of the Peshawar High Court from December 2016 to June 2018. He will oversee constitutional benches for specific cases after his oath-taking ceremony.
