"Presumed Innocent" submits for Emmys as Limited Series
Apple TV+ has announced that its legal thriller, "Presumed Innocent," will compete in the Limited Series category at the 2025 Emmy Awards. This decision has been approved by the TV Academy. "Presumed Innocent" initially started as a limited series adaptation of Scott Turow's book. The show gained attention and accolades, including a Golden Globe nomination for star Jake Gyllenhaal. After its success, Apple decided to renew the show for a second season, planning to follow a model similar to "The White Lotus." The shift to submitting as a limited series is due to changes in the show's direction. The upcoming second season will feature a new story and new characters, based on a different book titled "Dissection of a Murder" by Jo Murray. This means there will be no ongoing plotlines or main characters carried over from Season 1, meeting the Emmy guidelines for limited series. The first season followed chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich, played by Gyllenhaal, as he navigated a murder case within the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney's office. The show includes a noteworthy cast, such as Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, and Elizabeth Marvel. While the submission category will change for major awards, "Presumed Innocent" will still be eligible for the Writers Guild Awards as a limited series, where it has already received a nomination. The show's first season has been recognized for its storytelling and strong performances.
