Prince George and Charlotte spot anti-monarchy protests
Prince George and Princess Charlotte were recently seen in a viral video that captured their reaction to anti-monarchy protests in London. The clip shows the siblings riding in a carriage during the Trooping the Colour ceremony, which celebrates King Charles III's official birthday. The video became popular on TikTok, being viewed nearly 750,000 times and liked over 109,000 times. In it, George and Charlotte look out at protesters holding signs that read "Not My King." The footage also includes their younger brother, Prince Louis. The protests have grown since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. Critics of the monarchy are calling for an end to the royal institution. Graham Smith, chief executive of Republic, expressed that the celebrations are costly and do not reflect the people’s desires for change. Support for the monarchy has decreased, now sitting at around 50 percent. About one-third of the public supports abolishing the monarchy. Opinions about the protests are mixed, with some defending the royal family while others question its relevance. Trooping the Colour is planned to take place again on June 14, 2025, and will include a military parade and a balcony appearance by the royals at Buckingham Palace.
