Principal of Illawong Public School stood aside after Year 6 students exposed to inappropriate sex education discussion
The principal of Illawong Public School in Sydney has been stood aside after Year 6 students were allegedly exposed to inappropriate discussions about sex education on November 7. Parents raised concerns about the content, prompting a parliamentary inquiry. The incident involved students submitting anonymous questions, which led to discussions about adult topics, including streaming websites. Education Minister Prue Car apologized to parents and confirmed an investigation into the principal's actions is underway. While acknowledging the importance of sex education in the curriculum, Car stated that the school's handling of the situation was unacceptable. Opposition Leader Mark Speakman criticized the school's actions as reckless and called for assurances regarding the safety of other students in New South Wales.
