Private jet carbon emissions rise 46% from 2019 to 2023, study finds
Private jet carbon emissions increased by 46% from 2019 to 2023, according to a new study. The research highlights that emissions peaked during major events and summer months, with private aviation responsible for 15.6 million tonnes of CO2 in 2023. The study found that private jets, which serve a small number of wealthy individuals, emit significantly more carbon per passenger than commercial flights. Many private flights are short trips, often replacing car travel for convenience. The private jet industry is expected to grow, with the fleet potentially increasing by one-third by 2033. The study suggests that without regulation, emissions from this sector will continue to rise, as the use of sustainable aviation fuel remains limited.
