Private jet carbon emissions rise 46% from 2019 to 2023, study finds
A new study reveals that carbon pollution from private jets increased by 46% from 2019 to 2023. The research found that wealthy individuals emitted 17.2 million tons of carbon dioxide last year, equivalent to the emissions of 67 million people in Tanzania. The study analyzed over 18.6 million flights and noted that private jets account for only 1.8% of aviation emissions. However, the emissions from these jets are significant, with some users emitting over 500 times the global average per person. Researchers highlighted that many private flights are not necessary and often related to lifestyle choices. They suggest implementing taxes or fees to address the environmental impact of private jet travel.
