Processed plant foods support weight loss, unlike meat
New research from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine suggests that processed plant-based foods may not lead to weight gain like animal-based products do. The study indicates that choosing plant-based options can support weight loss without the need for calorie restrictions. In a trial with 244 overweight adults, those on a vegan diet lost an average of 13 pounds more than those who continued their usual eating habits. The findings show that weight loss is more related to the type of food consumed rather than its processing level. The study highlights that processed plant foods, even ultra-processed ones, do not contribute to weight gain. This research suggests that plant-based diets can be convenient and effective for weight management and overall health.
