Protein Industries Canada invites projects to blend pulses and cereals for new food ingredients
Protein Industries Canada has launched a new call for projects focused on blending pulses and cereals to develop high-protein, plant-based ingredients. This initiative includes a $10 million investment and marks the first time cereal-based projects are specifically invited. Previously, projects concentrated on crops like peas and fava beans. The new approach aims to enhance Canada's ingredient manufacturing by incorporating more cereals, particularly wheat and barley, into food products. Additionally, the requirement for project collaborators has been reduced from three to two, with at least one partner being a small or medium-sized enterprise. Interested groups can submit expressions of interest until January 16, 2025.
