Protesters arrested at Trump Tower demand Khalil's release
Protesters from Jewish Voice for Peace gathered at Trump Tower on Thursday to demand the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a pro-Palestinian activist arrested for immigration violations. Police arrested 98 demonstrators for trespassing and obstruction. Khalil, a permanent U.S. resident, was detained outside his apartment and faces deportation. He is currently held in Louisiana. His supporters argue that his arrest infringes on free speech rights. In a separate legal action, Khalil and seven students are suing Columbia University and Barnard College to block a Congressional request for disciplinary records related to campus protests. Khalil recently completed his master’s degree at Columbia.
