Protesters arrested demanding release of Palestinian student
Twelve protesters were arrested in Manhattan on Tuesday while demanding the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian Columbia student detained by ICE. Eleven received summonses for disorderly conduct, while one man was held for obstructing government administration. Khalil, a green card holder, was arrested at his apartment and is currently held in Louisiana. The White House stated he is accused of organizing protests that distributed Hamas propaganda, a claim they did not substantiate. Protests continued, with around 150 students at Columbia calling for the university to protect students from ICE. A federal judge has temporarily halted Khalil's deportation, with a final decision expected soon on his detention.
