Protesters arrested in Manhattan supporting detained student Khalil
Protesters supporting Mahmoud Khalil, a former Columbia University student detained by immigration agents, clashed with NYPD on Tuesday. Khalil is facing deportation for allegedly distributing pro-Hamas flyers and organizing protests that disrupted campus activities. The NYPD arrested about a dozen demonstrators after they blocked a street in Manhattan. Khalil's legal team argues that his detention violates his free speech rights, and a judge has temporarily halted his deportation while the case is reviewed. Earlier, around 350 protesters marched to demand Khalil's release, calling him a "political prisoner." The protests included chants against Israel and criticism of the Trump administration's actions regarding Khalil's case.
