Protesters demand release of activist Mahmoud Khalil
Protesters from Jewish Voice for Peace gathered at Trump Tower in New York City on Thursday to demand the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate arrested for his pro-Palestinian activism. The demonstration resulted in 98 arrests. Khalil, a permanent resident married to a U.S. citizen, faces possible deportation. A judge has temporarily halted his deportation while reviewing the legality of his arrest. He is currently held in a detention center in Louisiana. President Trump has labeled Khalil a terrorist sympathizer, claiming more arrests will follow. His administration's recent executive order may affect the residency status of individuals with certain ideological views, raising concerns among asylum-seekers and visa holders.
