Protesters demand release of pro-Palestinian activist in NYC

Protesters from the Jewish group Jewish Voice for Peace gathered at Trump Tower on March 13, 2025, to demand the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a pro-Palestinian activist arrested for immigration violations. Police arrested at least 65 demonstrators during the protest. Khalil, a permanent U.S. resident, was taken into custody outside his apartment and faces deportation. His supporters argue that his arrest threatens free speech and have organized protests across the country. Khalil is currently detained in Louisiana after a brief stay in New Jersey. He recently completed his master’s degree at Columbia University, a center for pro-Palestinian activism.
