Protestors gathered against anti-transgender event in California
A speaker event at the University of the Pacific drew protests on Wednesday night. The event, titled "The Truth About Transgenderism," was held in the Janet Leigh Theatre. It was organized by the university's chapter of Turning Point USA and featured Pastor Junsun Yoo. Yoo spoke about his views on transgender issues and claimed that people cannot be both Christian and transgender. His statements sparked concern among many attendees, leading to over 100 protesters outside the venue in support of the trans community. Protesters expressed worries about rising transphobia. Olivia Wang, a protester, mentioned her concerns about bigotry in the community. Security measures included yellow fences to keep protesters off the venue's entrance. Police reported no arrests were made during the event. Inside, Yoo answered questions from the audience, often facing interruptions from those who disagreed with him. He stated that he believes gender-affirming care should be forbidden for children. Despite the tensions, no one was forcibly removed from the event. The university clarified that the event was organized by a student group and was not officially sanctioned by the university. They provided space and technical support, but no university funds were used for the event.
