Protests at Trump Tower lead to 98 arrests
Protesters from Jewish Voice for Peace gathered at Trump Tower on Thursday to demand the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a pro-Palestinian activist arrested for immigration violations. Police arrested 98 demonstrators for trespassing and obstruction. Khalil, a permanent U.S. resident, was detained outside his apartment and faces deportation. He is currently held in Louisiana. Supporters argue his arrest infringes on free speech. In a separate legal action, Khalil and other students are suing Columbia University to block a Congressional request for disciplinary records related to campus protests. Khalil recently completed his master's degree at Columbia.
