Protests in Ranchi demand rights for displaced persons

In Ranchi today, various political, social, and student groups will gather for a protest, known as a Vidhan Sabha gherao. They are calling for the creation of a commission to address the rights of displaced persons. The groups taking part include the Communist Party of India (CPI), Jharkhand Andolankari Sangharsh Morcha, and the All India Trade Union Congress, among others. They are also advocating for the implementation of the 2013 land acquisition act and pension benefits for those who fought for the statehood of Jharkhand. Pushkar Mahto, the principal secretary of JASM, has called for a monthly pension of Rs 50,000 for all participants in the Jharkhand movement. He is asking for changes to the eligibility rules, especially regarding those who have served jail time. Mahto highlighted the urgent need for proper compensation, employment opportunities, and rehabilitation for people who have been displaced.
