PTI chief claims sit-in protest ongoing as nearly 1000 arrested in Islamabad clashes
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sit-in protest is "still ongoing," despite the party calling it off temporarily after clashes with security forces in Islamabad. Nearly 1,000 protesters were arrested during the unrest. The PTI leadership retreated amid heavy police action, including tear gas and rubber bullets, as they attempted to reach D-Chowk. Gandapur criticized the government's response, claiming the protest was peaceful and lamenting the deaths of party supporters. Data services in Islamabad have been restored, and roads are reopening after the protests. The Islamabad police chief reported that 954 protesters were arrested, while the government denied allegations of firing on demonstrators, labeling the actions as terrorism.
