PTI denies arrest reports as Rangers disperse protesters in Islamabad
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party denied reports of arrests involving Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and former first lady Bushra Bibi. This comes as the Pakistan Rangers regained control of D-Chowk in Islamabad, dispersing PTI protesters with tear gas. Protesters had gathered to demand the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, but faced heavy resistance from security forces. The Islamabad administration extended the closure of educational institutions due to ongoing unrest, while the government offered an alternative protest site, which PTI leaders rejected. Tensions escalated as the Pakistan Army was deployed to manage the situation, with reports of violence resulting in multiple casualties among security personnel. The government condemned the protests, labeling them as violent, while PTI claimed that law enforcement used excessive force against peaceful demonstrators.
