The Puducherry government has announced a new financial assistance program for women heads of families. Starting now, these women who have yellow ration cards will receive ₹1,000 each month. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy made this announcement during the Budget discussion in the Legislative Assembly on March 19, 2025. He explained that this assistance is aimed at women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families who are not already benefiting from other schemes. In the previous budget, the assistance amount was suggested to increase from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 for BPL women heads of families. This change has received support from many legislators. Some have suggested extending the program to women above the poverty line as well. The Chief Minister expressed his commitment to fulfilling all promises made in the Budget. He also mentioned that the government is looking for ways to increase revenue without burdening the public. He noted plans to develop land at Sedarapet-Karasur for industries, including IT and pharmaceutical parks, to promote new businesses and startups.
