The Puducherry government is planning to create an IT park and a textile industry on the site of the closed Anglo French Textiles mill. Home Minister A. Namassivayam shared this information in the Assembly on March 20, 2025. Responding to questions from a BJP legislator, he explained that the government aims to start the IT park soon. The Lieutenant Governor has also suggested looking into establishing a textile unit, as the region has a strong history in textile manufacturing. To assess the feasibility of reviving the mills, the government has contacted the South India Textile Research Association. They are currently preparing a report on the potential revival of textile operations. Namassivayam noted that there is plenty of land available at the AFT site for the new apparel manufacturing unit and the IT park. Some of this land is already reserved for the PM-Ekta Mall project. The foundation for the IT park will be laid soon.
