Pune advised to conserve water due to low dam levels
The Irrigation department has advised Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to conserve water as dam levels drop ahead of summer. The four dams supplying Pune currently hold 15.55 TMC of water, enough for only two and a half months. Pune requires an additional 2.5 TMC of water to last until the monsoon. The city uses about 1,650 million liters daily, and officials recommend reducing usage by 200 million liters per day to prevent a potential water crisis. Pune's approved water quota is 14.61 TMC annually, but actual consumption is around 21 TMC. Rapid urbanization has increased monthly demand to over 2 TMC, further straining water resources.
