Pune begins cement-concrete road construction at Katraj Chowk
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun construction on a new cement-concrete road at Katraj Chowk. This work started after the acquisition of important land parcels in the area. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion and should be completed within one month. Deputy engineer Dilip Pandkar announced that the construction is already underway at Gugale Plot. He stated that this new road will connect directly to Katraj-Kondhwa Road, helping to ease a long-standing traffic bottleneck. Land acquisition was finalized last Tuesday, guided by municipal officials including Dr. Rajendra Bhosale and Prithviraj B P. The PMC paid ₹ 21.57 crore to the landowner for a portion of land that had been a traffic issue for nearly three decades. Katraj Chowk has suffered from heavy traffic even after the construction of a nearby flyover. Delays in land acquisition were caused by legal disputes. Initially, the PMC proposed a different form of compensation, but the landowner rejected it. In 2017, the PMC amended its development plan to change the land designation for a road instead of a park. Additionally, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning a new six-lane flyover to further improve traffic flow in the area.
