timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Pune police have confirmed that a body found in a drainage ditch is that of a foetus. The post-mortem report from Sassoon General Hospital indicates the male foetus was about five to six months old. Dr. Rohan Metkari, from the hospital's forensic department, reported that a probable cause of death was a head injury. The hospital has preserved the child's remains for further analysis, including DNA testing. Senior Inspector Satyajit Adamane stated that they are looking for clues to identify the parents of the child. The body was discovered behind Rajgad Housing Society in Hadapsar after the drainage ditch was opened for cleaning. Police initially believed the body belonged to a seven-month-old child. But the condition of the body suggested it had been there for some time. There are no surveillance cameras or witnesses around the area. Police have filed a report under the law regarding the concealed birth of a child. They are also reaching out to hospitals to find any information on women delivering premature or stillborn babies.
