Pune plans to complete river rejuvenation by next year
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is under pressure to speed up its river rejuvenation and 24x7 water supply projects. Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj BP held a review meeting on Thursday, urging officials and contractors to finish these projects by the end of the next financial year. Currently, PMC claims that 70% of the river rejuvenation work is complete. However, activists argue that only 50% is done. Recently, Pune's Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale requested an extension from the central government for the project, which was originally due by March 31, 2025. Prithviraj confirmed that efforts are being made to clean all of the city's 144 water tanks. So far, 60 tanks have been cleaned, and water meters are being installed in many areas. Congress leader Mohan Joshi criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the delays in the project. He pointed out that the BJP has been promoting the project as a success for years, even while it remains unfinished. Joshi stated that the request for an extension shows the PMC's failure to meet its commitments.
