Pune police investigate sound levels at rape scene
Pune police have conducted a unique investigation into a bus rape case at the Swargate bus terminus. They wanted to find out if the cries for help by the survivor could be heard outside the bus where the incident allegedly occurred. To do this, a policewoman was placed inside a Shivshahi bus, parked in the same location as the crime. She shouted for help while experts measured her voice. After 10 minutes of shouting, the experts concluded that her voice was not audible outside the bus. This finding is important because the defense lawyers for the accused, Dattatray Gade, claim the relationship was consensual and that the survivor did not call for help. Gade, 37, who comes from Gunat village, is charged with multiple offenses, including repeated rape and wrongful confinement. The police have recreated the scene, ensuring that all conditions were similar to when the crime took place. After the sound tests and other investigations, the police plan to file charges against Gade in a magisterial court soon. He is currently in judicial custody at Yerawada Central Prison.
